Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online is the newest entry into the wide span universe that is the Neptunia series. If you aren’t a Nep-Nep fan, you, very well, should be. In this particular entry, the beloved characters jump into a new version of Gamindurtri’s biggest game/MMO 4 Goddesses Online in its beta. Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online is an “anime” action RPG.

The quirkiness of the Neptunia series continues to provide hours of enjoyment, and it only gets better as the series of games grow. From the amazing voice actors to the well written dialogue…Even if it does often make you wanna headbutt a brick wall at how incredibly cringy it can get. Even then, you will find yourself laughing and having a good time. This is the backbone of the series and Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online delivers that.

Playing the game felt great, minus a few small annoyances here and there like the A.I. party member trying to attack a mob on a ledge above them but not being able to hit them. Having eight different characters with their own styles of combat is a nice touch. If you find yourself getting tired of one style, simply change up your party. I, for one, stuck with Uni, as she seemed pretty freaking BOSS. Her ranged attacks kept her out of harm’s way while my party, full of melee users and healers, did the trick. Actually, playing this style was fun but almost too easy.

The biggest flaws of the game come in when you realize YOU are playing a game where the characters of the series are playing a game. The mobs from the REAL World from the other games are still used in this MMO game…within a game. Maybe I am wrong but I was really hoping for some new life in the Neptunia world and not just the same old creatures. That said, it was still a pleasure killing them. Even the bosses were used again and again with their various color palette swaps. Simply put, there just isn’t enough variety among the mobs you slaughter.

Then, of course, my biggest con in games is when a developer uses voice acting and then leaves half the game unvoiced, even more so when the voice acting is just so dang good like in the Neptunia series.

I have to say I was a little disappointed with the game when I found out we weren’t making a new character. I guess I had hoped we would be playing AS the Neptunia characters but playing as our own creations in this new setting. Still, the story was enough to keep me interested and the game is an enjoyable experience!

Pros:

  • Amazing Voice Acting
  • Gorgeous Looking Environments
  • Fantastical Story
  • Bouqet
  • Fun, Engaging Gameplay
  • Variety of Characters to play as

Cons:

  • Not fully voiced
  • Overuse of boss mobs (just changing colors is meh)
  • Uses too many mobs from other Neptunia games
  • Often lose track of characters because environments between character and camera block vision

Draul gives Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online a Drastik Measure 7.7 out of 10 (77)

This is a hard one to judge on price, as I really enjoyed playing the game, but the overuse of mobs is just…No Good. Mind you, the game has a multiplayer mode, but I was never able to experience it, as I could never find a person to play with. The price of Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online is $49.99 (USD) on Playstation 4.
