Acaratus is a turn-based tactical strategy game in early access, and as such things may change. There is a campaign which, at the moment, is mediocre. However it is important to remember that the story is not complete because the developers do not want to give it all away during early access.

The gameplay is good and very easy to pick up. The turn based combat grid combat is satisfying while not feeling boring.

The art is not bad, but really nothing special. The units, both yours and the enemy’s, are decent looking, and the battle maps are good. I do hope they get some polish before full release, though.

A feature I particularly love is the custom building of your units. You will collect unit parts after battles and you then use those parts to build or re-outfit your current units.

You will also collect cards. The cards are your abilities. Use your collected cards to build a deck to use the special abilities during battles.

The actual battles move pretty quickly due to the timer’s default setting of sixty seconds per move. This keeps the battle flowing.

The audio in the game (both music and sound FX) falls under the good, but nothing special category.

Pros
– Custom build your units
– Quick and accessible gameplay

Cons
– Hard to pin down anything really as the game is Early Access
– If you are looking for a solid strategy game, and want to get in early, you may want to give consideration to getting this early access game.
