Gal*Gun: Double Peace is a unique rail shooter type game from the publisher PQube Limited. It also has the elements of an rpg, and somewhat of a dating sim. I would say, however, that the choices, routes, and conversation points have more in common with visual novels. The story at its core is about finding out who you truly love in an impossible situation. You take on the role of Houdai, who is an ordinary highschool student whose life takes a dramatic turn with a chance encounter. What encounter, you ask? Why it’s none other than the self proclaimed elite angel, who functions as Cupid, Ekoro! …Who accidently shoots Houdai with a supercharged love arrow. The result of this is that he has until sundown to get his feelings through to the person he wants to be with. However, he has no idea at the start who that is.

The rest of the story depends on how you play and who you choose to pursue, because the events that take place change depending on the route you take. For instance, you can choose between the sisters Shinobu and Maya, Houdai’s childhood friends, or even pursue them both. There is also the Demon/Angel route in which you can pursue Ekoro or her demon counterpart, Kurona. Lastly the 5th route is the Unseen destiny route, which I am assuming is a harem route as I have yet to unlock it. I also believe there is a secret route with the girl that runs the store, Aoi, because if you buy all the items on the list in the store, she invites you to go to America with her and her band. I was pursuing Maya at the time of writing this review so I did not test that theory.

This brings me to my next point of conversation: the Academy store. You unlock it in game after you complete level 1-2 and choose your route. In it you find items that will boost or reduce stats, as well as protections. You buy them with angel feathers that you obtain from completing a level, or completing a request from a girl during a level. You can view what requests there are for a level before you start it. The stats I mentioned before are Intelligence, Style, Athleticism, and Lewdness. In addition to these stats, there are personalities that affect how easy or hard the stats are to raise, and their starting level. You start with four that are attuned to each individual stat, and unlock others after you beat the game. Such as a generic personality to the ‘That Fucking Guy’.

In each route there are story points that come up where you must choose a dialog option, and some of these require particular stats to be at a certain level for some the options to be available. In addition to those, there are mini events in the routes, such as in Maya’s route there is an event where you help her get unstuck from a demon trap and its slightly, well.. Best way to put it is an erotic situation. That being said, lets move onto the music and graphics for the game. The graphics are completely made with 3D models for the girls, and are extremely well animated. The backgrounds to each level give off a 3D feel as well. The characters voices are wonderful and masterfully done by the people who voice them. It is crisp and easily understood when they speak. The music fits all the scenes and levels very well also.

I can safely say that the game may look perverted at first, and it completely is. However, it comes across in a mostly tasteful way which makes it enjoyable without turning people away. It is definitely a late teen to adult game, and should not played by anyone who is less than 16 years of age without a parent’s consent, or the parent playing through it first. It has definitely breathed new life into the rail gun game genre for me, and I look forward to more games like it in the future.
