Neon Drive PC Review by BijouxDemon of we Touch Games
Genre: Action/Indie
Developer: Fraoula , Publisher: Fraoula
Release Date: May 12, 2016
Love the 80’s? Love neon lights and retro designs? Love driving around in a cool car to sweet retro wave music? Neon Drive has all of that wrapped into a lovely little bundle in a rhythm based game full of flashing lights, fast cars, and levels, each with their own song and theme to encompass the feel.

Neon Drive has very simplistic gameplay controls, either using the left and right arrow on a keyboard or using a plug-in controller. With the controller, I found I could use either the left and right directional arrows or use the bottom and right buttons on the pad. I found the directional arrows and the keyboard to be most comfortable for the gameplay, and was able to get through a couple of levels. The actual gameplay itself consists of you moving left and right between 4 tracks to avoid obstacles to the beat of the music. Although there are only 7 levels, each level has varying difficulties to it. The one negative I will say to that is that even on the basic normal levels, there are certain levels that feel completely unforgiving in the timing. To some this may be a plus, but I ended up a bit ragey with certain levels, to the point that I skipped them to go on to the next one. There is also an endless mode.

Aside from the gameplay, boy is this game beautiful. Smooth graphics with a color scheme straight out of an 80’s poster for Tron. It definitely draws you in and it’s one of the largest pulls for me with this game. The Retrowave music is also fantastic! Each song gets you in the mood to just drive down these scenic levels. As for its difficulty, it’ll vary depending on when you choose the level. I ran normal with all the levels, but I found some levels to be a little too unforgiving in the obstacles as well as the timing. It got quite frustrating, but that is one of the appeals of this game to you keep coming back and progressing further until you get 100% on a level. The one level I found myself coming back to often was the Endless Mode. It seems almost at first as if you’re doing the first level over again, but you continue on through each level in the game, but with the focus going as long as possible. Definitely a mode to challenge the more hardcore players.

For what it is, Neon Drive is a fun game with a unique feel and great graphics and music. With it, there isn’t a huge amount of gameplay, but definitely the difficulty level challenges players to push through and complete them and get through endless mode as long as possible. I’d recommend it to those who like a fun rhythm based game with a great aesthetic. Neon Drive will be dropping on steam May 12th.
