At it’s core Stories: The Path of Destinies is an Action RPG that plays out somewhat in the fashion of a choose your own story (I loved those books as a child): In The Path of Destinies you take on the role of a beautifully drawn Fox named Rinaldo who does not know it yet but is on a grand adventure. I am not giving any spoilers on the actual story… deal with it.

This is a story game as you might surmise from the title. The game will unfold in chapter where in at the beginning of each chapter you will have to choose a path that will send you into the corresponding level locking out the other choice in that play through. You will also be presented with choices within each level adding even more variation to the story.  You will NOT be able to explore all possible stories in one or even several runs so there is the possibility of a lot of replay value.

The game plays as an action rpg that will have you dashing around your enemies hacking them , throwing them and unleashing a myriad of wonderful and fun abilities on them. The combat is very satisfying, quick just plain fun. Throughout the course of the game you will be able to craft new swords that along with giving you new and awesome ways to kill things will unlock extra areas within each map.

Now I know this is a Story game whoever I have a gripe about how most of the story unfolds. Most of the story takes place in the form of a narrator reading a story book during cutscenes… Mind you the story book cutscenes are wonderfully presented but I spent more time just sitting tapping on my controller than actually playing and fighting. And that is a shame because the combat is so very good and it just never seems to last long enough The only other gripe I have is that as short as each level is the load time seemed a bit long… Mind you I do not use an SDD and my HDD is a couple years old so it could be just me…

The art in Stories: The Path of Destinies is just plain beautiful and vibrant. From the environment to the characters everything is just so fancifully alive with color and character. There is not a single character of enemy that is not meticulously drawn to utter colorful perfection Beautiful and cool are the only ways to describe the way the visual FX… While dashing around and dispatching of your enemies are eyes will be treated to flashes or cool and vibrant FX

The score is very nice and fits right in the the rich and beautiful art. The narrator’s voice is very nice… and in fact I think that whoever it is was a perfect choice. The environmental sound are nice and not overbearing while the combat sound FX are exceptionally done… I found myself listening to the sounds of my combat with satisfaction and even joy

Stories: The Path of Destinies is a wonder game filled with vibrant art, Fun combat and an amazing pick your own story… With the exception of the sitting idle while the story unfolds I absolutely loved the game. I highly recommend Stories: The Path of Destinies to all lover of action rpg fans or those that may want to play through a game where you can pick your story as you go.
