Starting out with this week’s report on episode 9 of The Promised Neverland, our story continues with heartfelt logic, some tears that I think should not have happened, and an ultimate new truth is revealed to the group through Norman about their plans. This week is an emotional roller coaster and one that leaves a lot of questions for the next episode.
The focus this week returns to Norman, alongside the now recovering Emma who is bed bound and some side focus on the group. A major focus on this episode falls to Norman, as Ray and Emma try to talk some sense into him to escape before them, which is resolved later in the episode in a way that could add a layer of worry to the viewer. This episode also revealed Ray’s purpose for asking for things like a camera, as he creates a way to shut off the trackers no one thought was possible.
With this report, I wanted to talk about the camera angles used during some shots of each episode. One of the coolest things this anime showcases is that behind the shoulder camera angle that moves with the character, and while it has limited use to a degree, the usage it does get shows a creative side to the team behind it and I honestly hope other anime pick this idea up and use it more often.
For me, my favorite part this week has to be the discovery revealed at the end about what’s beyond the wall, as I really think it throws a monkey wrench into the group’s plans as a whole and I am curious what they will do to get around it.
As a whole, I found episode 9 of The Promised Neverland to be one of the more emotional episodes and it shows, as you see small bits of character growth between the entire group and Norman has to come to terms.
