UFHO2 is a puzzle game from Tiny Colossus who is based in Madrid, Spain. It is available on Steam and the Humble Bundle Store for the price of $9.99. It is also available on iOS and Google Play for a price of $3.99. For the purpose of this review we will be using the Steam version of the game.

Upon first look at the game on Steam it looks like a goofy puzzle game, and that is is exactly what it is. It is chock full of crazy alien characters, wonderfully goofy dialogue, and amazing puzzles. You play as an aspiring Commander of a UFHO, or Unidentified Flying Hexagonal Object. The story takes place on the planet of Goonia, which is running out of its power source gems. They depend on them for everything, including their own survival.

So you are tasked with going out into the galaxy to find more. There are at least 30+ levels from 10 unique planets in the story mode. You also have local multiplayer and situations (challenges) in addition to the story mode. The way the game works is, you and an opponent take turns manipulating the game board to get to the gems. You both have 6 moves per a 40 second turn and it costs 2 moves to rotate an entire room, 1 to move a space, and 1 to rotate a room section. You have to plan your advance to the gems, while at the same time trying to anticipate your opponent’s moves. There are several power ups that you gain access to through the story mode, ranging from a simple extra move, to ones that can halt your opponent’s progress. On a side note, some of these powers ups have a move cost as well limitations on when you can use them, so plan accordingly.

The graphics for the game are amazing at presenting you with the sense of being in a sci-fi alien puzzle adventure. They range from the animations of the Goonians, who look like pulsating brain slugs from Futurama, to the amazing background designs for each of the worlds. The music is what truly gives the game that goofy space/sci-fi feel. One thing about the music, though, it is very very loud when you first start the game. So if you’re a headphones user like me, do your ears a favor and take them off before you load the game for first time. I had to take down the volume for the music to about 15-20% before it was not killing my ears.

All in all UFHO2 is truly worth the price of $9.99 for the steam version and if the mobile version is as good as the desktop version, it is worth it as well.
Pros:
Amazing music and graphics
Unique story and gameplay
Challenging puzzles
Goofy Sci-fi fun
Cons:
Music too loud on first load
Puzzles may be too challenging for the casual player
