Dead Effect 2 is an action sci-fi first person shooter and is the sequel to Dead Effect. Dead Effect 2 takes place on a large ship, and after playing through the opening scene you enter a hub area that you will use buy, sell, and equip gear, spend skill points and launch missions from.

You have three characters to choose from; Gunner Davis who uses heavy weapons, Jane Frey an assault ops member, and Kay Rayner who specializes in close quarters combat (CQC). Each character has their own weapon types and special abilities which makes each character feel unique.

Dead Effect 2 is a first person shooter and the gameplay itself is pretty standard for the most part, the only things that stands out is the abilities. Overall though, the actual gameplay is just too slow and clumsy.

I did like how you have a hub that you launch missions from, and there are a bunch of side stuff you can do which extends the gameplay beyond the story. The lead up to the game hub can be hard to get through, not because the game is difficult but because it is boring.

You can use either mouse and keyboard or a controller to play, but the controller feels clumsy and just plain off. The keyboard is the way I suggest you play as it is solid.

Dead Effect 2 is also a mobile game and that fact is reflected in the graphics. From levels, to the enemies, it all looks very plain. The weapons and the animations for the special abilities are also lacking.

Unfortunately, the audio falls in line with the graphics. Ambient noises and enemy player sounds all fall into the lackluster category. There is voice acting, which is great because reading through a lot of text in games can get quite boring. On the flip side, though, the voice acting is pretty terrible.

Pros
– Overall good story
– Three classes that feel unique

Cons
– Overall the game feels like the mobile port it is
– The graphics are rather boring and lackluster
– Audio is not very good
– The gamepad controls were not very good
– The lead up to the game hub is extremely boring

Dead Effect 2 takes a great idea but ended up being clumsy and a bit of a let down.

LumpDizzle666 gives Dead Effect 2 a Drastik Measure 4 out of 10 (40)
