FIVE: Guardians of David PC Review by BoxCatHero
Genre: Action, Adventure, RPG
Developer: Kingdom Games Publisher: Kingdom Games
Release Date: Nov 24, 2015
FIVE: Guardians of David is an action-RPG that has a play style similar to the Diablo games. It is the first game released by Kingdom Games on steam. The story begins with two young men waking up in their fields, and the story progresses from there, retelling the biblical story of the life of David. It mainly centers around the five Hebrew warriors who guarded him closely and had a hand in him becoming King. There are other characters that assist you along the way that are important to the story, but it doesn’t revolve around them. Some people who aren’t Christian may not know the story of David versus Goliath, but this game fleshes out the story so that everyone can learn more.

The game does an amazing job of presenting a biblical story without forcing you to have to read the biblical references in the game that are available through caches laying around the map. It is truly a unique presentation, and a wonderful game. The way game play works is dependent on the part of the story you’re in. It mainly goes with you controlling one of the five guardians, that you can switch out with the others at any time, as you battle wolves, lions, and others. Some parts have you control side characters, such as when David is forced to flee from the city when Saul calls for his arrest. During this small part of the game you are controlling the sister of one of the two from the beginning of the game.

As each of the five guardians level up they gain skill points which can be used to level up their basic attack, their power attack, or one of the many skills they learn as they level. Skills are assigned to the 1-4 keys on the keyboard, and the basic and power attacks are assigned to the left and right mouse button, respectively. You also have bread, the game’s equivalent of a healing potion, assigned to the Q key. As is usual with this genre of game, you pick up copious amounts of gear from chests, enemies, or even vendors from whom you purchase from with the currency dropped by various means.

The game does an amazing job of creating the look and feel of being in biblical times and the music fits along with it. As I close out this review, I want to remind you that even though the game is based on a biblical story, you do not have to read the bible references that are available to you in the game via the cache lores to progress through the game. It is a great story-filled game even without it, and plays amazingly as well. I’d say it is well worth the $20 price tag on steam.

Pros:
- Amazing story
- Unique characters
- Great gameplay
- Does a great job of presenting a biblical story without having to learn the bible
Cons:
- If you accidentally close the game without finishing a level you have to start it over.
- Some may be put off by the biblical nature of the story
