What if Dragons were real? Sure, those big old lizards can slay armies, but with their claws, I doubt they can take care of their teeth. That’s where a dragon dentist comes into play! Published in the US by Sentai Filmworks and distributed by Section23, The Dragon Dentist is a two-part mini-movie that tells one story of the dragon dentists and how they live. Many thanks to Section23 for the review unit.

The Dragon Dentist is an excerpt out of the life of a young dentist named Nonoko. As one of the dragon’s dentists, her job is to take care of its teeth by cleaning and fighting whatever is in them. One day, she finds a man named Bell between the teeth of the dragon. The other dentists tell her to leave him alone and let the teeth devour him, as him showing up foretells a great disaster. Nonoko saves him regardless and teaches him the ways of the dragon… dentist. This is their story.

Watching The Dragon Dentist was a treat. The storytelling was definitely a highlight for me and I loved how Nonoko’s and Bell’s interactions played well off of each other. Telling some of the history of the dentists through disaster was a bit cliché, but effective nonetheless. Bell’s reason for being in the dragon’s teeth ends up being a very climatic ending for the story and really leaves you wanting more. However, it’s not the ‘more’ that feels unfinished; it’s the ‘more’ that makes you want to stay in that world, like a good Ghibli movie.

Overall, I recommend The Dragon Dentist. Why? Because I said so- No. That’s not it. It was a joke. Don’t go flaming me, plz. … Anyway. The Dragon Dentist has good story, good music, and good animation. With a SRP of $39.98 USD, I’d scoop this one up, especially on a good sale. You can get it from the Sentai Filmworks store for $25.99 USD at the time of this article’s writing. Also, at least once, make sure to air out the cover of your disc jacket. What you do afterwards is all up to you. (If you can’t tell, I’m winking at you and giving you a thumbs-up.)
Lolinia gives The Dragon Dentist a Drastik Moé Measure of 7.4 out of 10.0 (74).
