Coming into this week’s report on the sixth episode of The Promised Neverland, our story comes in with a random jump scare, a fair bit of truth and discovery, some fighting, and a twist at the end that makes me wonder how our ragtag group of characters will respond. With this episode, we’re given a shred of realism and a message that truth is always the best route.

This week’s focus comes to mostly Gilda and Don, whom we have had some time to get to know but now they take the full stage as they discover something darker than they anticipated, ultimately wanting the truth behind Normal, Emma and Ray’s plans and how truthful they have really been to them. This episode also brings back Sister Krone, whom we have not seen for about two episodes now and when she does come in, it is a big twist that makes us, as the viewers, question how they will respond, knowing the circumstances.

With this report, I wanted to talk about the art style used in this anime. As someone who has watched anime with a similar art style, this sort of rougher but still well-animated style focuses on the emotions and facial expressions than the focus on higher end details, which you still get as a bonus.

For me, my favorite part of this episode was the discovery by Don and Gilda early in. Not only did it have an emotional impact on the characters, which shows, but affects later portions of the episode pretty significantly.

As a whole, I found episode six of The Promised Neverland to both illuminate and cast a shadow on the overall mystery behind mom and these demons, leaving us with an ending that leaves us in anticipation of the results.
