Starting out with this week’s report on episode 8 of The Promised Neverland, our story continues with the ending to a cliffhanger, an event that could or could not be less expected and Mom stepping up her game to route out the truth, even if it means hurting someone in the process. This week brings more twists then a Frito’s corn chip, more darkening information, and a realization of the truth to come.
The focus of this week shifted heavily in favor of Mom and Sister Krone, with a slight toss in of the group and Norman, who has seen a focus in a few episodes. With everything that has happened with Krone until now, her fate is not surprising, which I will leave ambiguous for watchers. It is surprising to see Mom make such a quick turn to this state, knowing that the truth is wide open now amongst Mom and the group.
With this report, I wanted to bring up Mom, specifically why I think her darker intent has been so delayed to surface. With characters like Mom, I find it is easy enough to tell they have something hidden behind a door or a scheme. This was made fairly clear in the early episodes, as far back as episode 2, but it appears she is now going full force to stop the attempt in general, to the point of injury. As to what she does from here on out, that is yet to show and I am curious to see what will happen.
For me, my favorite part this week has to be the disconnection between Mom and Ray, as prior until now, they have been working together and Mom having severed in theory the only other obstacle in her way, now severs her greatest ally, knowing she has succeeded in her plans as a whole.
As a whole, I found episode 8 of The Promised Neverland to be a big shocker episode, with many key points now coming together, essentially leaving us with an unknown as to the future of the group and their plans.
