Just as I predicted last time, it was the end of an arc, and we finally get a bit more lighthearted and fun episode. That is a good thing because we have, so far, had 4 episodes in a row, which were all rather dark and, at times, edgy and anger-inducing due to all the bad things that happen to Naofumi without any of it really being his fault.
In this episode, we get to finally meet the last person on the cover image of the series, although I expect we will only get to really know her in the next episode. In this one, we have, instead, had a really fun, if, at times, slightly infuriating race between Naofumi and Spear Hero. The reason it is infuriating, of course, is that Myne cheated again. It’s so unfortunate how much of a naive fool Spear Hero is, and although he can’t be blamed for it, the way he constantly acts superior and arrogant is really annoying but in a way that makes watching the show more enjoyable.
During a certain sequence which served as a growing-up montage for a new mount that Naofumi got, the music was really good and it got my attention. While I haven’t really talked about the music in the show so far, it’s all pretty good, but just this piece during the montage was something that really got me.
We also got to see a glimpse of what looked like another kingdom or, at least, a castle set in a different setting from the one we have spent all our time in, so far. Specifically, it looked very much like the Napoleonic era with the soldier outfits and their muskets, as opposed to the more medieval fantasy look the main kingdom has.
All in all, it was the first genuinely lightheartedly fun but also exciting episode, which is placed very nicely so we can get a breather after 4 heavier episodes. I expect the tone of the overall series to stay more lighthearted from now on with some darker moments, and that is pretty exciting to me, which is why I look forward to the next episode where we will hopefully get to know the new companion properly.
