Reverse x Reverse PC Review by Lolinia of We Touch Games – Developer: Desunoya – Publisher: Sekai Project – Genre: Puzzle Platformer
Reverse x Reverse (RxR) is a puzzle platformer developed by desunoya and published by Sekai Project. You control Code and Rithm, two debugging AI who make sure the world of desunoya games run well. With Code’s Rapid Dash and Rithm’s High Jump, you platform through the game’s inner code to debug the game. You play as both at the same time and can alternate control between them or operate them both at the same time. Many thanks to Sekai Project for the review key!
RxR is one of those… You know…. One of those infuriating, make-you-want-to-break-your-controller, agitating games that punishes you severely for one mistake and, yet, keeps you coming back for more because the “uguu kawaii” characters. Yes, I let out a little bit of weeaboo nonsense there. I did that mainly because the characters are indeed very cute. The game makes you root for the success of the little chibi-styled characters even when you feel utter doom at trying to do the platforming and figuring out the puzzles. It does this while giving your harder and harder puzzles.
Don’t get me wrong, the puzzles aren’t bad. The game is NOT bad. However, it’s very difficult. The puzzles are very well-designed. So well-designed that you may rage and quit over them. The contrast between cute and “easy-going”-looking characters and the gameplay is very apparent and adds a bit of flair to RxR that you might not see in other puzzle platformers. The music and voice acting can be a very calming experience. Both Rithm and Code have very cute-sounding voices and the background music can either pump you up or calm you down. One moment you may fly through a zone, then the next you will need a stretcher for your hurt pride.
Altogether, Reverse x Reverse will keep your mind going and possibly cost you one or five controllers. For the low cost of $9.99 on Steam, RxR is definitely worth the cost. It will keep you entertained and, unless you’re extremely great at platformers, it will truly frustrate you. I highly recommend the game, but I also feel extreme sorrow for the playtesters who had to complete the game before it was released. Seriously, I apologize to them that they had to go through hell just so we could get the game. They are the real MVPs.
Lolinia gives Reverse x Reverse a Drastik Measure 9.0 out of 10.0 (90).
