A Kiss for the Petals: Maidens of Michael is the eleventh installment of the yuri series A Kiss for the Petals that first started in 2006, as well as one of only three entries that have (so far) been officially translated–the other ones being Remembering How We Met and The New Generation.

It follows the stories of the six “Best Couples” of St. Michael’s all girls high school. The couple that is most in the spotlight is Risa and Miya, with the other five couples each getting their own routes unlocked after the Risa/Miya route is completed.

As the Risa and Miya route is the true route, it is also the longest of them all. It took me about 15 hours to complete it. It focuses on a budding romance between the two girls of pretty opposing characters, how they each developed a crush on one another, and how they actually got together after being called one of the best couples by their classmates. Most of it is very sweet, with Risa just being so freaked out about liking Miya but slowly accepting it and getting closer to her one step at a time. Most of the route is shown through the perspective of Risa while a couple of scenes are from Miya’s as well as some of the characters from the other couple’s perspectives. This is, in my opinion, the best part because it’s just fun and cute seeing Risa get so embarrassed every time she thinks of Miya or when Miya does something unexpected or teases her.

After they get together, the emphasis changes from a sweet story to as many sexual encounters as can be included into those short couple of hours remaining, and there are quite a few of those scenes. They are pretty long, very nicely drawn, written and well-executed by the voice actresses. If you don’t care much for the romance but just want to see sex, then I encourage you to get this game and sit through the earlier parts because the erotic scenes are worth it. As for the other couples, they are pretty much full-on couples at the start of the game, so their stories are all different from the main one and are all much shorter.

The translation is done well. It doesn’t sound awkward nor did I notice any big typos. There were a couple of them but they were negligible.

As previously stated, all the erotic CGs are amazing and the voice acting for those scenes is just as good. Thankfully, there is no quality drop when it comes to the non-CG parts of the game with the sprites looking just as good and the voice actresses being very expressive and great. I did notice some weird audio volume changes every now and then with some characters for no apparent reason, just sounding much more silent than the others and it was usually on only one or two specific character, but it wasn’t that big of a deal.

As of writing of this review, the full and uncensored version is only available on MangaGamer, as the game was delisted from Steam and Valve has not yet made an official statement in regards to that. It was apparently for depicting sexual acts between minors despite the warning upon first loading the game that all the characters are 18 and older and the Steam version is an all-ages version, which means that the sexual content is basically not there and needs a patch from MangaGamer to be restored. That is how I played the game, with an 18+ patch.

In conclusion, if you either want a very sweet and cute story about two girls figuring out they have feelings for each other and one of them being very awkward about it or a game with a nice number of very well-done erotic scenes, I definitely recommend this game. While it’s currently unavailable on Steam, it is still available on MangaGamer for $34.95 (USD) and I’d say it’s pretty worthwhile even at full price, but I wouldn’t blame you for waiting for it to go on a sale.
