Nympho Sensei Ryoko – PC Review

As a gamer who enjoys story driven games and visual novels, I am always looking for a story that can drive itself instead of relying on the events in the game or novel to move it forward. That being said, not many accomplish to do this successfully so when a hentai novel is released that promises a self driven story with your choices altering the ending only, I was curious to see it in action: Nympho Sensei Ryoko. Nympho Sensei Ryoko is a sex driven hentai novel developed by Code Pink, later released by JAST USA. While it allows the reader to read through a lusty and sexually-themed story with some solid art and music to match it, Nympho Sensei Ryoko falls flat in just a few areas that really matter.

Like walking into a room filled with lusty women, the story of Nympho Sensei Ryoko is heavy and always takes place in some type of sexual situation in which the next scene may be even more extreme than the last but not always in a good way. The story starts with us following Ryoko Sumeragi, a teacher at a private academy who is known to be a nymphomaniac, someone who loves to have sex all the time they are awake. We start out in Ryoko’s home, where, after she gets up and has breakfast, she plays with her younger brother Akito’s penis to get his “milk” for her coffee, clearly starting these sexual actions bright and early. After boarding the local train to the academy, we are introduced to Maki, a fellow nymphomaniac who sees Ryoko as competition and refuses to lose to her in the contest to determine who is more sexual. Upon arriving at the school, however, Ryoko goes to an old school building, and we are introduced to Hitomi, a girl who acts like a subordinate to both Ryoko and Akito, as their sexual slave. I will end the synopsis here; the rest of the story is purely defined by where you take Ryoko and what type of sexual act she has in that place, but, with eight separate endings and over 100 different erotic scenes to unlock as you read, this novel definitely gives you content for the time you put into it.

Even with the amount of content this novel has to offer, I still find Ryoko lacking in a few key story areas, one that could have been avoided very easily. My first issue is the lack of a main plot, specifically that the novel doesn’t appear to have one. The story plot is supposed to be this open, changing world of sex as-you-experience type of story, and I wanted to like the concept more here. However, when you are given very little to build from to begin with, it does not develop into that identity I was looking for. The second issue I found with the story, a tie in to the first one, is that the sex scenes, while they are vivid and detailed to build up this personal story, fall short in the end. Ryoko and the other main characters have this depth and emotion that shows in the story segments vividly, but it is all with the side characters that they have these acts with which lack that same energy and passion.

With a sultry moan, the actual hentai scenes present in Ryoko are vivid, active and a refreshing breath of air, though not perfect. For the most part, the hentai scenes are really well done in terms of the story, voice acting and character interaction; what seems to fall short with these scenes is the sheer abundance of them and the side characters, while not in all scenes, lack the drive that Ryoko and the other characters have. I consider these scenes to be some of the better ones I have seen playing through a hentai novel, as they hide absolutely nothing from the reader. They give the reader a full view of the action while the character reacts in real time like it was happening right before you, and, for that, I have to give Code Pink a big sign of approval for going all out.

Playing like a movie or one of those straight-to-DVD films, the presentation of Ryoko follows a simple anime art style with clean lines and a soundtrack that, while not memorable at times, plays well to the scenes presented. Visually, I found Ryoko not as heavily detailed visually, which is a fair tradeoff, as the story details and the use of simple art leaves room for some imagination. The backgrounds, for the most part, felt nicely designed and very few seem reused, but the ones that do get reused lose much of the luster the novel tries to present. The character art is a nice pace changer, as the characters, while still keeping much of the simple details from the general art style, have this unique sense about them and make themselves unique, even if it is only for one scene.

Keeping that lively rhythm, Ryoko’s soundtrack is one of those rare occurrences where the soundtrack is not the most notable but is executed very well with its classical and jazzy tones. At its core, the soundtrack of Ryoko is very set at the classical level, featuring most of the noteable elements, like the piano and woodwind instruments, but adds new depth during certain scenes where the emotion is high and the girls are at play with some jazz elements to spice up the track. These jazz tracks are a good change from the usual music and add plenty of memorability to those scenes as a whole. The sound effects are nothing to shake a stick at, either, as most of the limited sound effects used are high quality and feel well placed when actually used. I would have liked to see a few more get used, though, as the variety after hearing these effects a few times can get stale.

Overall, Nympho Sensei Ryoko, with a self-sustaining story, some solid visuals and while not the most memorable but well-placed soundtrack, is definitely a solid hentai novel. It includes at least 10 plus hours of playtime, eight endings and over 100 hentai scenes, waiting to be discovered but not perfect in all manners. The self-sustaining story from player decisions, all right voice acting for the main characters, refreshing and vivid erotic and hentai scenes, simple but effective art style, characters and background art that maintain the same art style, and well used sound effects and soundtrack in the scenes make this visual novel worth at least one playthrough to the end.

Pros:

  • A story that keeps going based on the reader’s choices
  • All right voice acting, for the most part
  • Vivid and refreshing erotic, hentai scenes
  • A simple but effective art style
  • Character models and background art flow really well
  • Really well used sound effects with high quality
  • A soundtrack that, while not always memorable, fits with the novel
  • 10 plus hours for one playthrough
  • Eight endings and over 100 different scenes to unlock

Cons:

  • Story lacks a plot from the start
  • Secondary (minor) characters feel vanilla in treatment
  • Lack of voice acting from secondary characters can lose the rhythm of the novel
  • Music is unmemorable

DarkLunarDude gives Nympho Sensei Ryoko a Drastik Measure 7.8 out of 10 (78)

For the price of $34.95 on JAST USA, I can highly recommend this erotic hentai novel to those who are not seeking a true story but a lot of action in your reading experience, as the novel has a lot of content for those willing to give it the eight plus playthroughs.
