There are some novels you can explain with pure logic, and some you can not, Sexy Demon Transformation! is a weird mix of both sides, but maybe not in the right way. Sexy Demon Transformation! is a hentai novel developed by softhouse-seal, later released by MangaGamer and while this particular novel is not too flashy, it has an aura of uniqueness and quirkiness that can not be ignored, even with its flaws in the story.
Starting up this demonic energy filled engine, we are taken into a world where revenge is only served up one way: hot and lusty. We, the reader, read through the eyes of Ashiya Yamato, an exorcist who has a lust-filled rage about losing and by losing, we mean revenge levels of losing here. Ashiya was in a competition with Abe Asuka, a childhood friend who has exorcism in her veins and beats him in a competition to earn the right to become the Boss, a rank of exorcist that allows you to tell other exorcist what you can and cannot do. This enrages Ashiya to the point he befriends demons who help him become stronger. Now able to merge with them, gaining new powers temporarily in the process, Ashiya puts his plan into motion to become the next Boss by the only means he knows how: getting his childhood friend pregnant and weakening her powers, but there is a lot to do before he gets there. To say much more is stepping into spoiler territory, but I do have a few glaring issues with our tale.
To begin with, the character they develop with Ashiya was a huge turn off for me as a reader. I can understand having a character wanting revenge for what they think was taken from them, it is a normal trope in novels, but the way Ashiya goes about it takes it a step too far with this idea of impregnating a girl to steal her position of power. Not to mention that he is a exorcist using demons for his own gain, a gain that goes after other girls then just Asuka. The demon system has its bits of issues as well, mainly that if you are a speed reader like myself, that you will quickly miss messages to tell you hints as to which demons are what you need to progress in the story. These hints can be subtle at times, something you would miss if you were not paying attention. I do have to give it up to the team at Softhouse-Seal though for developing one of the most unique and strangely intimate hentai novels I have read in a while, creating this tale of a seeking of gain, but utilizing this to create these intimate and slow hentai scenes in the process.
Sexy Demon Transformation! is an anime at its core, both in its designs and its musical offerings, a fitting style for the craziness this novel offers you. Visually, Sexy Demon Transformation! is what I call a stylized novel, meaning a novel that its art is part handdrawn and part rendered. The backgrounds are a bit bland to some degree, with areas ranging from the school the main character and his friends go to, to a traditional style temple with all the trappings. The characters, however, are a different ball park. These characters,while not the best looking for a novel, express very well, especially when you hit the animated CG hentai cutscenes scattered throughout the novel. These scene are without a doubt, the best element the novel has going for it as the character are animated, using proper voice lines for each of the girls and syncing very well with fluid motion and feeling like something in a actual anime.
The hentai cutscenes in Sexy Demon Transformation! go one step further than most hentai games normally do, adding animations and voice effects as a real time effect, making the scene sound and feel like they are taking place before you, the readers eyes like a movie. They are by far, the best thing this hentai novel has to offer, aside from a story that is borderline unfathomable in a real scenario but in the world of anime, quite plausible. Do these scenes go a bit over the top sometimes? Yeah, I will admit some of them are a bit too good for their own good but it made the experience of the novel more enjoyable.
Musically, Sexy Demon Transformation! boast a more jazzy influenced soundtrack, something I will give my props to as it breaks from what you expect of a hental novel to have for music and focuses on a genre of music that is often forgetting about. Sadly though, the sound effects are not really existent except for a few key ones used in the various hentai scenes, something I wish they had explored more options for as sound effects can be a great immersion tool to the reader in a situation.
Overall, Sexy Demon Transformation! as a hentai novel is definitely one of the more unique gems and i am happy to say, even with its flaws was just a overall good time to get immersed into. The unique and interesting story, multiple endings and routes, anime inspired design, movie quality hentai scenes, a solid immersion into the world, and jazzy, yet witty soundtrack make for an experience you will not forget.
