The Drastik Moé – Those flower petals look a bit tasty, tbh.

Going into A Kiss for the Petals: The New Generation (SonoHana New Gen) was a wild ride. Yuri titles are actually my secret love, if one couldn’t tell from my reviews of Highway Blossoms and Flowers. More than simply girls loving on girls, the SonoHana series of visual novel games is well-known for their excellent stories and breathtaking visuals. SonoHana New Gen does not disappoint in this regard. Developed by St Michael Girl’s School and published for western consumption by MangaGamer, SonoHana New Gen is definitely a good buy. Many thanks to MangaGamer for the review key!

“Wait… am I on a website?!”

Starting with the sound, I loved the music. While it admittedly has the feel of being a bit simplistic at times, the music reminds me of the days when I first found visual novels. The first one I was ever introduced to was Katawa Shoujo (I wrote a post about this a while back, if you’re interested). The simplest of music can do wonders for your emotions. Most of the music was calming and serene. The vocal sound effects for the sex scenes were… delicious. The game suffers from delectable voices. Sadly, there’s a lack of schlicking sounds, but that shouldn’t deter you. The H-scenes are actually used for character development, so what it lacks in stimulating background sounds, it makes up for with the story.

Dem kiss sounds were GLORIOUS

Artwork, as you can tell, is rather good. Almost stimulating, one could say… Okay. Enough bad jokes. The artwork is amazing enough that it makes me want to lick the screen. Combined with the excellent storytelling and soothing music, I admit that I got lost for a day or two playing the game and just staring their crying faces. THE CRYING FACES ARE SO BEAUTIFUL. Seriously, I could not get enough of the girls in this game crying. I’m pretty sure their tears became sustenance for me for a bit of time, to be really honest. I mean, look at their crying faces! It’s too cruel to have such cute cries!

CRUEL, AIN’T IT?

Combine the crying girl fetish with a love for excellent storytelling and then add on some character development and I’m sold. In my opinion, the best route was the Manami and Hazuki route for the amount of character development put into that story. In fact, there was so much put into the route that it felt unfinished. They were still developing at the end of the route, which made the character change from Hazuki’s perspective to Aya’s perspective a bit jarring. However, the Aya route was good too. And the Rina route. In fact, they were all good. (Though, I must admit that Hazuki as a main character needs to happen again. She was fun.)

Cute…. BUT STILL CRUEL

Overall, the game is cuteness to the maximum. Cute characters, cute music, cute sex all wrapped up into one less-than-500-MB package. The game is short, but does leave an impact on you. For the price of $34.95 USD on the MangaGamer storefront, the price IS a bit STEEP for a game that only gives about 20-25 hours of content for an extremely slow reader. A normal reading speed would probably about 12-16 hours. For me, I think I would’ve waited for a sale or had someone else buy it for me if I knew I wouldn’t have the money to shell out.

Pros:
– Those moans and kissing sounds
– DELICIOUS TEARS
– Soothing music
– Stunning artwork
– Excellent storytelling

Cons:
– WAY TOO SHORT
– Not enough Hazuki and Manami development.

Lolinia gives A Kiss for the Petals: The New Generation a Drastik Measure 7.1 out of 10.0 (71).
