Last week, I took a look at the first episode of The Promised Neverland, which I enjoyed quite well, given that I have not read the manga for this series. Looking into the popularity during this time, it definitely has picked up some, a plus for this series going forward. I think that this anime has set its place as a potential big anime for the season if it continues down this path.

As to the second episode of The Promised Neverland, I thought it continued the story from the first episode quite well, taking a more literal focus on Norman and Emma after the events they saw previously, acting as a character builder for the two while starting that character development for Ray, whom we are briefly introduced to in the first episode. We also get to see something I usually do not see in anime, an emotional connection that a character is not willing to break for anything.

The show itself, this time, keeps building on that-this idea of mystery and the world inside the walls being out to get them, be it through something as simple as someone walking in on a conversation, odd questioning, and, my favorite bit of the episode, tracking devices, ending in a way this week that adds a new layer to the mystery that is building around Norman and Emma’s big discovery.

People seem to have taken better to this series since my first writing based on my research, which I am happy to see, but I do still see the art style criticisms pop up in reviews. I can understand where this art style can be a slight turn off, but as someone who enjoys shows like Madoka from a few years back, the art style has its charms, given the chance.

As a whole, I enjoyed the second episode of The Promised Neverland with its darker tones and can’t wait to see the mystery start to unfold in other ways as the episodes go on.
