Following up on the second episode of The Promised Neverland, our story kicks into high gear with the introduction of a new child to the orphanage, along with a new caretaker. But with this comes a reveal of the discovery and a plot to follow it. The mystery grows each week, with it making me just that much more curious.
The focus of this episode was split, a first for the twelve episode series, where we still have the Emma, Norman, and Ray character development story going as they search for ways to escape, tackling each curveball as it comes. This episode also added in Isabella and Sister Krone’s side of the story, where we learn more about these “demons” that have not had much face time yet and might soon be stepping out of the shadows in some way.
For this week’s report, I wanted to bring up the voice acting, as I find the actors help sell the scenes very well. Emma’s voice actor, in particular, does a great job with this, as when fear or terror is needed, you get chills down your spine, ultimately feeling for the girl and this shroud of fear surrounding her.
My favorite part of this episode was the introduction of Sister Krone, as, at first, she seems like a normal caretaker but quickly, you see the visage fall away as she does this “I see an opportunity to take power” change mentally.
As a whole, episode three of The Promised Neverland keeps that air of mystery and thrill of intrigue going, building up a sort of clash of powers in the future that I am waiting to see come to light. Not the most impactful episode in terms of character build up, but I am curious to see where the Sister Krone stuff goes.
