You know what we should do today? Let’s go back to Japan!
Well, not really, but at least we can get a really good guide book to Japan in the form of a game. Go! Go! Nippon! My First Trip to Japan! Is a visual novel developed by OVERDRIVE and published by MangaGamer. It’s an All-Ages, wonderful guidebook through Japan, even more so with the recently released Go! Go! Nippon! My First Trip to Japan! 2015 Version DLC. With the DLC attached, the game gets new life breathed into it with seven new locations, 2 more endings, a few more choices, and a shiny new 16×9 ratio.
There have also been updates to the scripts that add more current information to the game for each area and the prologue. The characters on screen now move with the E-mote System, instead of being static images that flicker on the screen. Integrated into the game, with each new location, a link that opens in your browser takes you to a google maps link of the location you are in, showing you the real life location alongside the game. The text is also easier to read and the dating sim aspect of the game is a bit smoother than the original.
However, there were some issues that took away from the experience of the game. For instance, when going to Mt. Takao one day, then Tokyo Sky Tree the next (or vice versa), there is no continuity with the main character knowing about [redacted]’s fear of heights, though it’s quite obvious that he learns it very well in both situations. There are a few more occasions like this where continuity is broken and it did take some enjoyment out of the game for me. There’s also the lack of a Music Gallery in the Extras menu, which also didn’t exist in the original game.
Overall, the Go! Go! Nippon! My First Trip to Japan! 2015 Version DLC is a great addition to the game, nearly doubling the content and giving some major information updates as the times have changed. At $7.99 USD, I would definitely invest in this DLC, as it greatly enhances the gameplay and adds more replay value to the small visual novel. At the time of this article’s writing, the original game, DLC, and a bundle with the original game and DLC is on sale on Steam for 25% off until October 30th! So let’s get going on that plane to Japan!
Lolinia gives Go! Go! Nippon! My First Trip to Japan! 2015 Version DLC a Drastic Measure 8.6 out of 10.0 (86).
