World End Economica episode 2 (shortening this to WEE2) is the second game in the series and continues four years after the end of the first one. Written by the author of Spice and Wolf, developed by Spicy Tails, and brought over to the western audience by Sekai Project, WEE2 has leveled up tremendously compared to the original game. Music, graphics, and overall production quality of this kinetic visual novel is very high. If you haven’t already read the first game, I highly recommend you both read my review of WEE1 and go buy the game on Steam, as this review contains spoilers of the first game. Many thanks to Sekai Project for providing a review key!
WEE2 starts out 4 years after the cliffhanger ending of WEE1. Hal (now called Haru) is walking again and working in a public government office. He uses a crutch and cane to get around since his left leg no longer moves. (His face also is emotionless now as he can’t move those muscles now, either.) Lisa (now called Risa) still owns a church, but it’s not the one that was sold off in the first game. She also now looks more suited to her description (view the game to see her new look). Hagana, whose name didn’t change, has been missing since the day Hal came back four years prior. Life has moved on, yet Hal (pardon me, I meant Haru. Haru) is still caught in the past as he has stopped trading.
Chris has grown up and is now an investor herself. She brings her boss to meet Halu (errrr, I mean Hal, ERRR, I MEAN HARU) to Lisa’s ch-…. Risa’s church to get him to trade again. Li-… Risa also wants to have Haru (YES, I GOT HIM RIGHT THIS TIME) watch over Chris since, after four years ago, Lisa is…. (durnit…) Risa is worried that Chris may end up too involved with money. Situations lead to others being involved and the world of World End Economica episode 2 sets out to rid the lunar soil of evil in the grandest of dreams.
The technical aspect of WEE2 is ramped up compared to the first game. The music, sound effects, and visuals are beautifully handled, as well as the text… mostly. The only issue I had with the text (as you can see above) was the renaming of certain characters. For a good majority of the game, I was still calling Haru as Hal as I read. Would’ve been nice to have a choice to use the original names from the first game, as suddenly calling Serrault as “Cerrow” is certainly jarring when used to the names of the first game. However, once you overcome that small issue, the game is quite beautifully done. The soundtrack is great and gives me warm feelings inside with the energy in it. The visuals are also very well done and an upgrade from the original game.
In conclusion, World End Economica episode 2 makes me hunger for Episode 3. At $12.99 USD, I highly recommend WEE2. It is a great addition to a colorful world and has a truly heart-warming feel to it. However, if do want to get WEE2 on the cheap end, the current Humble Weekly Bundle will get you this game (and 3-5 other gamess and a VN maker) for only $11 USD. Go check it out and enjoy the story!
Lolinia gives World End Economica episode 2 a Drastik Measure 8.8 out of 10.0 (88).
